So I will be recreating the world as well as I can, but for this post, we will be talking about skyblock. Some people don't have very good luck when it comes to skyblock. Oh no I made obsidean! Oh no I misplaced my ice! Oh no my tree is on fire! And they don't really know how to start a good island. Here's my way of doing it the best way and most compact way.
Step 1: Dig your tree first. IMPORTANT: Do not break the leaves on the tree because if you let them decompose by themselves, there is a 100% chance to get at least one sapling out of it.
Step 2: Make a crafting bench. Place it right next to your chest, nearest to where the tree was. break a 2 by 2 area under the chest and workbench. Put the 2 ice from your chest diagonally to each other and break them to form an infinite water source.

Step 3: Make a cobblestone generator using the infinite water source and the lava in the chest. If you don't know, (which you probably do) a cobblestone generator is water flowing into a one block deep hole, and lava flowing towards the hole, but make sure the lava source block never touches the water.
Step 4: Make a wooden hoe, turn your watermelon into melon seeds, plant your sugar cane next to the infinite water source, farm some land on the other side of the infinite water source and plant the malon and pumpkin seeds. IMPORTANT: Remember to leave a non-tilled, empty dirt block right next to the pumpkin and melon seeds.
Step 5: Take a piece of sand and put it down a bit away from the other plants. Plant your cactus.
